Why buy a coffee machine

This entirely depends on the make, model, and type of coffee machine you go for. If you use a coffee pod machine, then generally speaking there should be an easy-to-lift flap or compartment to pop your pod into. Then, there will be a receptacle to fill with water, and you simply place your coffee cup under its tap and press ‘go’.

For filter coffee, this is a little different but not too much. You’ll need filter coffee paper. Make sure your coffee pot is placed under the tap of the machine and open up the coffee compartment. Place your cylindrical filter paper in this area and scoop in your ground coffee. Close this compartment and fill the water well with boiled water before securing the lid, and then switching it on to brew. This will produce finely filtered black coffee which you can then add milk, sugar, and syrups to yourself.

For more advanced coffee machines like bean to cup coffee machines, you’ll need to check your model’s manual as each brand and style will have their own user guides.

How to clean a coffee machine

Cleaning your coffee machine is essential to making sure it produces top-quality coffee every time. Residual build-up can lead to your morning coffee tasting bitter or stale, which nobody needs, so here’s how to clean your filter coffee maker.

First, fill the water reservoir with equal parts clean water and white vinegar, as the water will help flush out any debris that the vinegar breaks down and dissolves. Pop some filter paper in the basket and set the coffee machine to brew as if you were making a fresh pot. About halfway through this process, turn the coffee machine off so that the water-vinegar solution sits in the carafe and reservoir and works its magic on any of the built up debris. Leave this for about 30 minutes before turning the brew back on to finish. When this is done, throw away the filter paper, place a clean one in, and fill the reservoir with clean water again. Set it on another brewing cycle, and repeat this twice, so you can clear any remaining vinegary tastes and smells.

For coffee pod machines and those that use flavour sachets, you may need to pop open the receptacle and scrub away any build-up with a toothbrush or cloth. Your user manual for these machines will be the best guide for cleaning these.

What is a bean to cup coffee machine?

A bean to cup coffee machine is the ultimate barista experience. They have a built-in bean grinder similar to those you see in highstreet cafes and coffee shops. You add your coffee beans into the grinder and it reduces them to a fine powder to create beautiful, rich, fresh coffee not from your usual dried-down granules. They don’t just make a black Americano either, as most of these machines come with settings for cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, and more. Some even have a milk frother! However, if you don’t want to buy the full machine but still want to experiment with some seriously silky coffee, you can purchase coffee grinders and electric milk frothers separately.
