2011 American fantasy drama television series, Game of Thrones, was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who also wrote a vast majority of its episodes. Based on the novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire", the series takes place on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaving several plot lines with a large ensemble cast. The first story arc follows a civil war among several noble houses for the Iron Throne, seven kings, queens and other rulers battle for control of the realm, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for thousands of years.
