The HYM40LI420SP is the ideal battery-powered lawn mower for small to medium-sized lawns bringing you a clean, green, cable-free mowing experience. No cables, no petrol and no pollution, the HYM40LI420SP lawnmower is powered by the market-leading Samsung 40v Lithium-ion 2.5Ah battery, no more messy fuel or dangerous mains cables.
This mower uses a powerful 40v motor, with a cutting width of 420mm, so it's perfectly suited for small to medium-sized lawns. It also features a spacious quick release 45L easy airflow grass catcher with hard lid, meaning you spend less time emptying the cuttings and more time mowing. Attaching and removing the grass collection bag couldn't be simpler and the convenient grass level indicator on the top of the grass catcher will always inform you when the grass catcher is ready to be emptied.
With no engine to service, you also don't need to spend time checking oil, air filters or spark plugs, making it extremely easy to maintain. It also comes with a mulching plug (your dropped cuttings become compost, creating a healthier-looking, greener lawn) and rear roller for a striped lawn effect.

This easy starting method removes the strain associated with recoil pull-start lawnmowers. The handles fold down over the main power unit, which makes this compact lawn mower easy to carry and store in a garden shed, garage and transport in the boot of your car. It’s quick and easy to assemble out of the box, allowing you to get it in your garden for the first cut in no time at all.

Light and easy to use!
Purchased a couple of weeks ago. Was almost fully charged on arrival and I cut 3 of our lawns on a single charge. The various cutting levels give a wide variety of height. Easy to put together and lightweight to use. Wish I had purchased one years ago.

Light weight, easy to set up and use, quiet
An excellent mower for a small to medium size lawn. Mowed my front and back lawns in record time, with plenty of battery power remaining. A roller rather than wheels at the back would have been a better option when it comes to cutting the edges of the lawn, but that was my choice to make before I bought it. One very tiny quibble: the description says, 'convenient grass level indicator on the top of the grass catcher’. There's no actual indicator, just some narrow slots at the sides of the lid so that you can see (with difficulty) whether the basket is full of not. A bit misleading. And there's no live indicator when in use to tell you how much power is left in the battery, you only know that when you take the battery off of the mower and put it in the charger. But that's not a problem for me: one medium size back lawn and a small front lawn used less than half the available power, so I'm more than happy. My 30+ year old, noisy, hard to start, expensive to run and maintain lawn mower has ended is useful life and been replaced by a younger and much more with-it model. Good decision.

unfortunately the 2.5ah is only enough to mow a small garden the self propulsion drains the battery you will need to buy a larger battery for a medium size garden mulching function saves you getting rid of the grass

Problems starting - unreliable
Since purchasing the mower there have been intermittent problems starting the mower. It's often taken several minutes and numerous attempts before it finally splutters into action. Today however the problem was so acute that it has taken me two and a half hours to cut a small to medium sized lawn because it wouldn't start and each time I stopped the same problem occurred. Very disappointing.

I left a review when I bought this mower, it seems to have disappeared. The website is very naughty - this mower does NOT have a rear roller, and it continues to be advertised as such in spite of being told several times. It is NOT easy to fit the grassbox, nor have I found the bit that tells you how full it is. Further, the starter cable has gone floppy and hardly works. RD say they will take it for repair at any time of any weekday that suits them, provided it is fully wrapped - try that if you have disposed of the box.

My new lawnmower experience
Bought this and sorry I did.
It took hours and hours to charge 1st time which I expected
I have a lawn about 65ft by 30ft and the fully charged battery only just got it cut ,as I realised I missed a small patch next day but battery was dead when I went to cut it.,
Again it took hours to recharge.
I will gladly purchase a different mower from Robert Dyas if they could do me an exchange
As other items I have purchased from them have been excellent including a new hybrid BBQ just delivered.
