Moisture Control FAQs

Finding the right moisture control solution can often be daunting due to the wide range of products on the market. There are often many factors to consider, from placing your moisture absorber in the correct place to understanding how long they can last in your home. If you’re not sure which moisture absorber is right for you, we recommend the UniBond Aero 360 as a simple but highly effective moisture control measure.

Where is the best location for your moisture absorber?

To ensure your moisture control product can work efficiently, it is best to place your absorber as close to the source of the problem as possible. Avoid placing your absorber near doors or windows as this encourages the absorption of any moisture from outside, ultimately not helping to solve your damp. If you would like your moisture trap to be hidden, you can also place it in a discreet place such as under or behind furniture

How do moisture control traps work?

Moisture traps work to remove any extra moisture in the air, effectively removing any humidity you may experience on your windows or damp in your home. The absorbent crystals work to draw in the excess water whilst the upper portion of the absorber traps in the water from escaping, leaving your home fresh and dry.

Electric dehumidifiers are also available and use tabs rather than crystals. Whilst the body of the electric dehumidifier can last longer compared to the traditional moisture trap, they also require their absorbent tabs to be changed. The absorbent tabs can reduce moisture in rooms up to 20m² for as long as three months.

How long do moisture control traps last?

Traditional boxed moisture traps can often last up to approximately three months, as they continuously draw in the excess water in your home. However, for many moisture traps you can also purchase refillable absorbent crystals, meaning you can continue to top up your control trap when needed.
