Overview
For regular family gatherings when a variety of grilled and barbecued food is required, the Outback Meteor 4 Burner Gas BBQ is a great choice.
The four cast iron burners with individual control give superb cooking results over the two surfaces – one side features a cast iron grill while the other has an additional cast iron grill with a Multi Cook section for you to swap out cooking surfaces, making this a truly versatile barbecue.
On the top of the four main burners, the Meteor has a side burner which can be used for cooking sauces or frying in a pan or for searing steaks and other meats for a perfect restaurant finish.
The roasting hood is double lined for keep control over oven temperatures; inside it has a large warming rack to keep food nicely warmed when cooked, or alternatively it can be used to cook meats and vegetables slowly with the hood down.

Griddle plate
The griddle plate circle offers you a full-width griddle across the BBQ. It's the classic barbecue surface, allowing you to grill all your favourites such as meat and poultry, along with a range of vegetables and sides, with ease.
Grill plate
Give your steaks, burgers and vegetables the perfect grill finish with the circular grill plate. The PE coated cast iron is tough and durable giving you a long-lasting, non-stick and easy to clean for all of your grilling needs.
Skillet Plate
The flat plate is a great addition to the Multi Cook system. It allows you to use the plate to grill as well as an effective sizzle plate. You can also use pans or woks for total versatility in your BBQ cooking options - No need to revert to the kitchen stove.
Pizza Stone
A truly unique accessory for your gas BBQ, the pizza stone allows you to cook full 12" pizzas, and dough-based products, straight from your barbecue! It's Ideal for large garden parties where a variety of food choices may be needed.

Hybrid charcoal and gas cooking system
This BBQ uses charcoal baskets with Hybrid briquettes which gives all the great taste of charcoal cooking but the convenience of lighting it with gas. To light, turn the burners on high for around 15 minutes until the briquettes start to the ashen grey turn off the burners and the briquettes will continue to burn (much like charcoal). The briquettes will continue to burn without the burners lit so you can cook on the gas BBQ like you would on a charcoal BBQ!
How to insert your hybrid cooking system:
- Remove the grill plates and centre piece.
- Remove the flame tamers from the gas burners.
- Insert the hybrid cooking charcoal basket covering half of the burners.
- Fill the basket with the desired charcoal.
- Replace the grill plates and centre piece and ignite your charcoal with the gas burners.
- Multiple burners – The four burners with griddle and grill, together with side searer and hood give endless cooking possibilities.
- Interchangeable plates – Cook all kinds of food to perfection thanks to the three different plates you can use for differing results.

What Gas Do I Need To Buy?
All Outback gas barbecues from Robert Dyas come complete with a gas regulator and hose. This will save you time and money sourcing this essential component. The included gas regulator (connector) is a 27mm propane snap-fit regulator. These are very simple to use and work perfectly with Calor Leisure Patio Gas bottles. Simply press the regulator on the bottle connector until it 'clicks', and then turn the black leave to the 'on' position to start grilling. When finished, turn the gas to the 'off' position, or one further 1/4 turn to disconnect the bottle.
Calor gas suppliers are available in many locations, from garages, through to campsites and camping stores. You will need to pay a deposit for the bottle, and then each time you fill the bottle up. There are two sizes we recommend of gas bottle for our Outback gas barbecue range:
5kg Patio gas bottle (Propane)
A favourite choice of bottle size, the 5kg patio bottle is easier to handle and is ideal for smaller families and gatherings or infrequent use. It works perfectly with the included regulator, allowing you to connect and disconnect the bottle in seconds, keeping you safe, and minimising any waste of gas. The compact size means it will fit next to or within all barbecues, and it has a weight of around 16kg when full.
13kg Patio gas bottle (Propane)
The 13KG patio gas bottle is ideal for frequent users, those with very large barbecues to fuel, and large families or parties to serve. It is of course much heavier and harder to handle being heavy (The bottle weight is around 35kg when full) but needs to be refilled less frequently. Consider where you will be putting the bottle, as this larger bottle is harder to locate under barbecue side shelves or in units, but will need moving less often to be refuelled.

Have had this bbq for over a month now and used over two dozen times.
The ordering and delivery of the item was simple. Delivery driver excellent.
Takes a while to put together but the instructions are easy to follow. Coming, as it does with the extra plates for pizza and the griddle make this a superb all round outdoor cooking set up. I would recommend the additional hybrid briquettes for that more realistic bbq experience.

After having an outback BBQ for 20 years. When ours finally stopped working I was keen to buy another. This has so far not disappointed. Took some time to put together, but so have all of our previous BBQs. It works very well. The bridle and pizza stone inserts are an excellent idea and perform fine. The side searing area is superb, it cooks steak really quickly, and does actually dear it properly which I've always struggled to do on a standard gas BBQ.

This is our first gas BBQ. Nice strong BBQ and easy to move on the wheels. Easy to use just half the burners when only 4 of us and heats up in about 15-20 minutes. But our favourite feature is the pizza stone. You do need all 4 burners on to cook pizzas properly, but really impressive. Definitely recommend this product.

Does everything I need!
So I received and assembled the bbq a month ago and I’ve finally had the opportunity this evening to try it out. I cooked a dinner for four (that could have fed eight) with ease using the griddle and warming rack so I could serve burger, sausages and kebabs at the same time. The bbq performed admirably, much better than any of my previous bbqs. I’m looking forward to branching out and trying the pizza tray soon, I suspect it would work well for American style pancakes too.

Such a great purchase, brilliant for cooking up a BBQ breakfast on the hot plate (you can do scrambled eggs on it as well as all the other essentials) so you can make the most of the warm weather! Also great for evening dinners when you would never think of firing up a charcoal barbie.

Just had our first BBQ last night and although it took 2.5 hours to build with one person, it was worth it! The food tasted like a charcoal BBQ because of the lava locks. Very easy to light, it fired up first time. It also seems very sturdy. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic BBQ
Took 2 hrs to build, but we have spent many happy hours cooking since. from full chickens, leg of lamb and using a wok on the side burner. Cooking plates are easy to clean. Not used the pizza stone yet..

I bought this BBQ in the 25% off sale when I started as it kept on going out of stock quickly. I shopped around but this was the best price I could find. I like the interchangeable plates but have only used the solid plate for vegetables so far. It was straightforward to assemble but did take a couple of hours one evening. This is my first gas BBQ and I'm totally converted. We have used it most evenings, weather allowing!

Excellent!!
Bought this to replace our old gas B&Q BBQ which was a great buy. The outback however has shown how much better it is to cook on lava coals as great taste and the BBQ is really quick to cook on. Heats up fast, yet to use the pizza stone but will definitely try this when the sun decides to come out. got this on a 20% deal so treated it to a proper cover.

Very decent BBQ made better by Robert Dyas
This BBQ is a replacement to my old Outback.
It lives up to the Outback name.
A bit fiddly to put together but not overly complicated. It helps to have 2 people.
The Robert Dyas version includes a pizza stone and a griddle and a grill rather than the standard 50/50 of grill/griddle option from other retailers.
Cooking on it is a joy. Lights up first time and spreads heat evenly.
I did a slow 4 hour cook of pork ribs and the meat just fell off.

Made the change from charcoal and not looked back!
This is a serious piece of grilling kit, not only do I have 4 burners to play with, but the side burner too, which is cleverly a "searer" with its own grill mesh, so you can cook steaks etc on it, or boil a pan. But the winning feature for me is the Multi-Cook, which is normally found on the much more expensive Outback Spectrum, but Robert Dyas have had the feature added as an exclusive, so I recevied a flat griddle plate, a standard grill plate, and a pizza stone, so now my options - especially for summer parties - are endless, and I no longer need to run backwards and forwards to the kitchen to cook other items - I can do it all on this one BBQ! The warming rack is really useful too, as my timing for grilling is terrible, so now I can keep food warm and close to hand to serve it all up together. Fingers crossed for a sunny British Summer!
