This totally depends on its new owner! What do you and your child envision for your new garden playhouse with a slide? To add some creature comforts, try adding some garden cushions. They are made of sturdier material than regular sofa cushions for your living room, so they will fare well under the shelter of your playhouse and give your child somewhere comfortable to host their tea parties and summits from.
Sourcing some playroom furniture might be a fun idea too, or use it to store some of the garden games that are waiting for a sunny day.
Sometimes you just need to add a personal touch and a little colourful flare to your wooden playhouse. Here are our top tips on how to prep and paint your playhouse.
Choosing your paint
You not only need to choose your paint colour, but you need to choose which kind of you would like. For example, a wood stain is absorbed into the wood rather than coating it in a colour. It colours the wood but allows all its natural grain patterns and knots to show through for a rustic, authentic feel. Wood paint, however, covers up the natural grain more and more with each coat, giving it a more all-over-colour finish.
Wood preparation
Start by brushing away any debris on the wood, including any soil, cobwebs, and loose bits. If you wipe the playhouse down with a damp cloth, make sure you let it air dry first before applying any base layers.
Most exterior wood paints don’t need a primer or underlayer because they are formulated to be sturdy, but double-check with your paint of choice first! We’ve got a great range of exterior wood paints to choose from, with some beautiful colours too.
Painting and finishing
For those who are detail-orientated, put some masking tape on the edges of the windows so you don’t end up with stray paint on the glass or plastic.
When you paint, follow the direction of the wood grain to avoid pulling out any splinters and to gain an even finish. Apply a second and even third coat to deepen the colour and to even out the finish. Let it dry without any little hands getting excited and touching it, and voila! You have a freshly painted wooden playhouse.
