Overview

Change the colour to suit your mood or mimic natural light patterns with this smart bulb. Whatever the occasion you can have the perfect coloured light to set the atmosphere, and you can make use of the circadian mode to enjoy a relaxing natural light effect. This allows you to adjust the brightness from soft white to daylight.

No matter where you are in the world you can still control this nifty smart bulb, which is great for creating the appearance that someone’s at home. Simply use the free Kasa app for iOS and Android to control it. What’s more, it’s fuss-free when it comes to the set-up: Instead of having a hub you just connect the bulb to your home Wi-Fi. You can also use voice control to turn the lights on and off, which is a great feature for easy modern living. And to top it off, it’s even energy-conscious: It reduces energy usage by up to 80% without compromising on brightness or quality.*

You can even use your voice to enjoy this smart bulb via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The best option for the UK for now (with caveats) If I bought this again now I would go for the cheaper variable white option, not the multi-colour option because I almost never use any of the colours. It is fun to show it off though. The bulb is significantly taller than a standard incandescent bulb and, once you have added a UK bayonet fitting adapter (USA, please note, screw fittings are dumb!) you may need to change your shade to make room for it. The Google Home integration is excellent, allowing commands like "turn the light to 25%", "turn the light to max" or "turn the light orange/purple/cyan/light blue" but it does sometimes fall off the network, meaning that the bulb either doesn't respond or responds slowly, after Google has apologized for an "unknown error." This happens maybe once in 50 uses and doesn't bother me enough to be a problem. It could be down to my overloaded WiFi router. Ideally I would have had a WiFi switch, not a bulb, as this could still be controlled from the wall switch, which this can't easily be. All the switches that aren't unreliable and unbranded are US shaped which won't fit into a UK home. The main use case for me is when I have sat down in front of the TV with dinner and want to change the light but don't want to move. For this it does exactly what I want. Using a recognised brand means good tech support and regular security updates which are essential for internet of things devices. The update process via the phone app is simple to use.
