FAQs

How to Clean Outdoor Canvas Awnings

Canvas awnings are a great way to relax outside whatever the weather, but their exposure to the rain can lead to mildew if they are not cleaned properly. We’re going to tell you how to clean your outdoor canvas awning and for these steps, you will need a ladder and a bucket of warm water.

We would recommend starting by dusting away any debris or loose dirt with a long-handled broom. Next, rinse away any remaining debris with water from a bucket or a hosepipe. In your bucket, make some soapy warm water and apply this to your awning. Make sure you use a gentle soap.

Try to lightly scrub the surface of the patio awning with a soft bristled brush. Then, rinse away any soapy water with clean water until there’s no residue or soapy run-off. Leave the awning extended to dry naturally in the sun.

Do I Need Planning Permission for a Patio Awning?

Domestic patio awnings do not need planning permission, as long as they aren’t stretching onto public areas. Businesses like restaurants and cafes do need planning permission, as do branded awnings, but if you’re just getting a patio awning for your back garden then you don’t need to worry about this.
