Good idea but could be slightly better
Bought this to substitute for shade on a tiled terrace having had various parasols and gazebo type structures before. Firstly the material is pretty good and the finish is up to scratch. The instructions are clear and easy to follow but it’s essential you have at least one further pair of hands or even better two for the front section. The sliding shades are a good idea as you can push them back to allow air (wind) to pass by easier without rocking it. On that score to call it freestanding is misleading. It is true that the slats at the rear give it side to side stability however in the back to front department it’s isn’t stable without some support and that doesn’t mean just bolting it down. Mine is braced against the side of the house which means it is supported. Without that and in a strong breeze it could be very unstable. If it’s ti be used in the centre of a lawn or in the middle of a patio the uprights should have at least some support.
There is just one criticism in that that the roof panels are flat. This means that when it rains water pools on the top of the panels. The weave in the shade fabric isn’t sufficient to allow it to drain through. It will drip but will take time to disperse the pooled water. The design should have been to make the rear most supports slightly longer than the front ones thereby creating a slope to allow water to fall naturally. Either that or the weave on the shade should have been bigger. Anything flat on anything outside will gather water. It’s a design and engineering solution to what is otherwise, within its limitations, a good item.

Looks good. Great contemporary pergola. Looks as though recommend taking out roof covers in high winds. Sways when windy!

It is OK
I purchased two of these. They are not as sturdy as one might hope, but we have had some wind and it is at least still standing! Some of the screw points did not line up so there may be some small manufacturing issues but on the whole it went together OK. I do wonder how long it will last though. The fabric panels I cannot see lasting that long - and they do not move smoothly through the channels. Just not as robust as I would like. Probably would not have purchased if I had seen a real one first but returning items like these is not an easy task, particularly once you have put it up!

Fell to bits after abit of wind
Really unhappy with this product I would honestly say save your money abit of wind a few weeks back has taken the thing to bits and upon getting intouch with Robert Dyas customer services, they asked manufacturer if this was covered under guarantee and funnily enough not covered that it fell to bits after the wind. Do not buy this product unless you want a pile of metal on your garden like pictures attached.

Really disappointed its not waterproof at all , it says weather proof and the top it like a shower in the rain very disappointed

If you are not at home when we try to collect we reserve the right to deduct from your refund or charge your credit card the direct costs to us of the failed return in accordance with the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.
