Jubilee Street and Garden Party Ideas
May 20, 2022

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is coming up, with celebrations running from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. This incredible milestone will be marked with hundreds of public events and over a thousand street parties up and down the country.

As part of the British high street for 150 years, at Robert Dyas we’ve helped shoppers enjoy many a royal event, and this Platinum Jubilee is no exception. We’ve got a fantastic Jubilee range for one’s right royal affair, and have compiled a list of everything one needs for garden or street party success!

Have fun!

We Brits love a bit of competitive sport, so set up some garden games – they’re sure to go down a treat with friends and family, including the kids. These sets will bring plenty of smiles and laughter to your celebrations: Kingfisher Giant Tower Block Set, Kingfisher Wooden Garden Skittles Set, Activo Cricket Set with Carry Bag, Kingfisher Wooden Garden Quoits Set, Kingfisher Giant Dominoes Garden Game.

Download some extra children’s activities for the kids too – platinumjubilee.gov.uk has a great selection of printable Jubilee activities. These plus a simple pack of coloured pencils, like this Steadtler Pack of 12 Colouring Pencils, may help save your little ones from boredom while the adults have fun.

Prepare for rain or shine

The British weather can be unpredictable so be prepared for showers and hot sun with a gazebo. This Outsunny 2.7m Garden Gazebo provides welcome shade in hot summer weather, while this Monaco 3m x 3m Folding Gazebo with Sides will shield your guests from showers.

Enjoy ‘The Big Lunch’

The Big Lunch is all about celebrating community connections, with The Big Jubilee Lunch the official community celebration for the Queen’s Jubilee weekend. Order a free pack for lots of ideas,  inspiration, recipes and invitations.

Bake and create

With your recipes from The Big Lunch, or your own favourite British classics, you can create snacks your guests will love.

No need for a trip to Fortnum & Mason – make your own royally good cakes and bakes with the help of a hand or stand mixer, or use this Robert Dyas 12-Cup Muffin Tray for fairy cakes. Some great quality pans will ensure your savoury snacks are also first-class.

Serve in style

Afternoon tea anyone? Serve up some classic British treats with the Premier Housewares 2-Tier Cake Stand - Slate or this Maison 2-Tier Cake Stand with a stunning white marble and gold finish. The perfect piece for serving your homemade crowning glory.

For mains and snacks, the Waterside 18-Piece Platinum Band Dinner Set is the ideal choice for marking the Platinum Jubilee, while this Waterside 12-Piece Gold Charger Plates Set will add a regal feel to sit-down lunches.

The Jubilee is a great excuse to uncork the champers, so  make sure you’re ready to bring out the bubbles with some champagne flutes – like these RCR Melodia Champagne Flutes - Set of 6 – and an ice bucket like this Stainless Steel Gold Finish Stag Ice Bucket, evocative of the Queen’s Balmoral grounds.

If serving food to share, place plates and glasses at the end of the table so everyone can help themselves.

Give guests the royal treatment

Lay down this Eclat Tasselled Table Runner. When topped with fancy crockery and plentiful sparkling glasses, it’ll be a table fit for a Queen.

Turn on the tunes

Whether it’s old British classics or a modern 2022 playlist, create instant atmosphere with some music. This MIXX XBoost Portable Wireless Party Speaker streams music wirelessly via your phone, tablet, laptop, USB stick or micro SD card. Ask your guests for their favourites and create a personalised playlist everyone will love.

Have plenty of seating

The last thing you want is for your guests to be unable to take a seat, so make sure you have plenty of thrones available. Folding chairs, like this Robert Dyas FSC Country Armchair, are perfect for accommodating an extra guest or two. If you’re on a budget, camping chairs will do the trick – try this Quest Festival Pack Away Chair

If it’s folding tables you need for all your food and drink, this Outsunny Aluminium Extendable Picnic Table is ideal.

Banish the bugs

No one wants wasps and pests buzzing around their summer food, so have some insect control products on hand like this electronic Bat Bug Zapper.

Get street party-savvy

Holding a street party is very simple and doesn’t require a licence, but don't forget - before you make any plans, check if your local council requires you to complete a simple application form. If you encounter any difficulties, your local councillor will be happy to help. Visit the government’s website (www.gov.uk) for further guidance.

We hope we’ve inspired you with our ideas – now all that’s left to do is go ahead and get Jubilee jubilant!
